An SDLP MLA has called for St Brigid’s Day to be made a public holiday in Northern Ireland.
East Derry elected rep, Cara Hunter, made the call after the Republic confirmed it would make February 1 a holiday from 2023 to remember those who died during Covid-19 and recognise the contribution of frontline workers.
Ms Hunter added that it would also be the first public holiday both north and south named after a woman.
