Scrubs stars have shared who they would love to have as patients on the show, as the medical comedy makes its long-awaited return after 16 years.
The first episode of the revival dropped on Wednesday and saw original stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke reprise their roles as JD, Turk, and Elliot, respectively.
Fans have been excited to see how the former Sacred Heart Hospital interns have been faring, and a tad bit dismayed to see how some relationships have fared in the years since the show’s last episode in 2010. The new series sees the one-time interns step into the role of mentors, guiding a fresh cohort of rookie doctors.
In an interview with Variety, the cast shared their list for guest actors they’d like to see in the hospital bed.
“I want Kate McKinnon to be my patient in an episode,” Chalke said, adding that she wasn’t sure what ailment the former Saturday Night Live performer should have.
“But it’s got to be something recurring so that she can stay around for a while.”
Faison pointed to two of his long-time acting heroes. “Harrison Ford, because he’s one of the reasons why I’m an actor. It’s him and Denzel [Washington],” he said.

Judy Reyes, who reprises her role as Carla Espinosa, also offered suggestions. “I wouldn’t mind a Boris Kodjoe. I wouldn’t mind an Idris Elba. I wouldn’t mind a Bad Bunny,” she said.
Reyes even had a plot ready for the Super Bowl halftime performer: “This rapper comes to the hospital. Carla’s a huge fan and every time she goes to see him, she can’t treat him because she feels like throwing up.”
Braff, meanwhile, suggested bringing back a familiar face from the show’s original run. “Scott Foley is one of the funniest straight men ever. A lot of people know this because he’s usually playing the heartthrob somewhere, but I’d love for Scott Foley to come back and be my nemesis again.”
Foley appeared in the original series as Sean Kelly, a recurring character who dated Elliot.

Scrubs originally premiered in 2001 on NBC before moving to ABC from 2008 to 2010.
The reboot’s official summary reads: “JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time - medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.”
In August 2024, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence exclusively told The Independent that a reboot was in the works as the show’s creative team felt they had “stories to tell.” Lawrence also addressed the challenges of reuniting the original cast, saying, “the hardest part is that Zach and Donald have aged.”
New episodes of Scrubs will air Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on ABC, with streaming available the next day on Hulu.
