Screamer Documentary Breaks Down the Return of a 90s Arcade Classic

Milestone offered a closer look at its upcoming anime-inspired combat racer Screamer through a new behind-the-scenes documentary. The 15-minute feature, Road to Screamer, focuses on how the team is shaping the game’s racing mechanics, story and visual style with added insight from voice actor Troy Baker.

The video opens with Development and Creative Director Michele Caletti and Executive Producer Andrea Basilio discussing the legacy of the original series and their aim to recapture its spirit for today’s audience. Game Director Federico Cardini expands on that vision by explaining the twin-stick driving setup, the Echo System and the way character-specific abilities influence the flow of each race. Narrative Designer Kerry Kazmierowicztrimm follows by outlining a future world where five teams and fifteen racers collide in stories built around personal stakes.

Art Director Federico Mattioli and Annis Naeem of design studio Plumehead describe how the game’s environments, vehicles and characters were shaped by that narrative direction. Their work is paired with anime-style cutscenes produced under the guidance of Polygon Pictures’ Daisuke Shimamura, who aimed to strengthen each character’s emotional journey through animation.

Actors Troy Baker and Aleks Le close the 17 minute documentary by reflecting on their roles as Mr. A and Hiroshi. Baker talks about taking on a villain in games for the first time, while Le explains how the project pushed him to approach the hero role from a different angle. Screamer is set to arrive in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
