Scream fans get ‘goosebumps’ after watching new trailer for the latest movie in the slasher series

The first trailer for Scream VI has been released and fans say by the looks of it, it could be the best one so far. The latest instalment of the iconic slasher franchise will also see the return of some familiar faces.

It seems like a Ghostface is on the hunt in New York city to track down Woodsboro survivors, who are played by Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera.

The movie will see the return of Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed, a Scream 4 survivor, and 'Friends' star Courteney Cox as investigative reporter Gale Weathers, whom she first played way back in 1996.

The Woodsboro gang uncover a “shrine” to the serial killer, with the latest murderer determined on keeping their legend alive – albeit with a different mask.

Kirby, who has not been in the franchise since Scream 4 in 2011, meets the new crew in New York and tells the survivors: ”We share a certain history…”

It’s apparent in the trailer that this killer is “unlike any other Ghostface” seen before as the killer admits to Cox’s character: “There’s never been one like me, Gale. I'm something different.” Fans have taken to Twitter to share their excitement at what one user described as “movie of the year.”

Viewers tweeted: “the gun shot part… this is just ANOTHER LEVEL”.

”This new #ScreamVI trailer wow!!! they’re making ghost face bloodier, and more vengeful than ever. can’t wait!!”;movie of the year is coming.”

Some Scream fans shared possible theories for the upcoming movie, with one user saying the trailer gave them “goosebumps.”

“Is Ghostface a supernatural entity now? Holy sh*t this trailer gave me goosebumps.”

Another fan has high hopes for Scream VI saying, “This one actually looks really good. I hope this one is the most scariest and gory scream.” while another person feared “it's the end for Gale Weathers this movie.”

Scream VI will be hitting cinemas on March 10.
