The South Central Railway (SCR) has scored another ‘best’ performance in terms of completing electrification works across its network during 2021-22 by taking it up to 770 km. This is not only an all-time record in the history of the zone but also the best by any zone across Indian Railways in the last financial year.
An official spokesperson on Sunday informed that the electrification works got accelerated and last mile connectivity was given special focus. Of the total 770 km, 326 km falls under Telangana, 331 km under Andhra Pradesh and 87 km under Maharashtra while 27 km pertains to Karnataka jurisdiction.
Senior railway officials said electrification of these rail lines helps in providing seamless movement of trains by avoiding change in traction power, reduces en route detention of both the coaching and freight trains, thereby improving average speed of the trains.
Besides, it has the potential to introduce more trains in these sections because the sectional capacity has got enhanced. It also provides an environment-friendly means of powering the trains, while saving fuel costs at the same time, pointed out General Manager in-charge Arun Kumar Jain.
He congratulated the entire staff and officers for executing the electrification works in quick time as it also reflected that majority of the SCR network is now electrified and is on its way to achieve 100% electrification.
