Trips to Deeside ice rink were pretty great back in the day and the foam parties were even better.
Unfortunately here on Merseyside, there isn't a permanent ice skating rink. However, this made trips to Deeside Leisure Centre in North Wales even more exciting.
Many people in Merseyside will have travelled to the leisure centre via train or they might have had to ask their parents to drop them off, much to their dismay, so they could listen to tunes on ice. Deeside Leisure Centre has had many transformations over the years.

In the late 70s and early 80s the leisure centre in Queensferry was one of the major venues on the tour scene. Helping put the area on the map, the transformation from a sports complex to a leading rock venue came after Alyn and Deeside Council invested in a skin to cover the old ice rink, turning the arena into a performance venue.
Huge household names such as Bob Marley, Blondie, The Clash, Dire Straits, The Police and The Who all played at Deeside back in the day. However, the curtain came down on the centre’s role as a major rock venue in the mid-1980s, with Dire Straits the final big name to grace the stage.
In recent years the ice rink has been transformed into foam parties, paint parties, 80s nights, 90s nights and rock nights hosted by Dee Rink Live. Many people will have memories of getting soaking wet from the foam after skating to their favourite songs.
However, Deeside Ice Rink has been closed for almost two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was taken over by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and converted into a hospital at the start of the pandemic.
In March last year the hospital stood down, but the ice rink continued to be used as a mass vaccination clinic. However, in October Aura Leisure said it would be reopening to the public - but no date has yet been confirmed.
On Dee Rink Live many of the events say they "are coming soon" so many people will soon be able to enjoy foam parties on ice once again.
