The multimillionaire founder of housebuilders Redrow once lived in a caravan with no electricity or water.
Steve Morgan, originally from Garston, lived in nine homes and went to nine schools across Merseyside and North wales before the age of 16, spending three of those years in a caravan. One of three siblings, he was born to an 18-year-old mum and a 19-year-old dad serving in the RAF, and didn't have an indoor toilet until he was seven.
Never could he imagine a future where he'd be able to donate £50m to diabetes research and more than £1m to the Conservative Party's 2019 election campaign, or to try buying Liverpool FC, of which he's a lifelong supporter. Sitting in a converted barn, home to his office with an ornate wooden desk below exposed beams, the 69-year-old founder of Redrow is a long way from the two paper routes he cycled every morning before school.
