Scottish Tories are all over the place when it comes to voting tactics

Douglas Ross and the Tories don’t know whether they are coming or going over tactical voting.

The leader of the Scottish Conservatives suggested yesterday that the best thing to do is to vote for a candidate who is most likely to oust the SNP.

Ross implied that people should “do what’s best for the country” to help loosen the nationalists’ grip on Scotland.

It is fair game for political rivals to try to capitalise on the SNP’s problems.

The post-Nicola Sturgeon era has been a mess so far and the party’s solid support in recent years has dwindled.

But the idea of encouraging Tories to vote Labour has not gone down well with the UK Conservatives who released a statement of barely concealed horror at Ross’s suggestion.

Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie is right to describe it as “a desperate move”.

Ross cannot ask voters to back the Tories on their record over the last 13 years,

Their time in government has been a disaster for the country.

It is almost impossible to point to one solid achievement from a series of second and third-rate leaders since they came to power.

From Brexit to the cost of living crisis to Liz Truss trashing the economy, their time in office has been a catastrophe for the country.

Ross and the Tories are incapable of dealing with the problems we are facing because they caused most of them.

The only tactical voting advice you’ll ever need is never vote Conservative.

Ambulance alarm

The figures showing ambulance delays have left one in three people to make their own way to hospital are alarming.

It is unacceptable that so many people who call an ambulance are not able to get one.

Those in life-threatening situations need to know help is there if they need it but it is not always the case.

The pressure is felt not only by patients but by overworked ambulance workers as well.

These everyday heroes help save lives and ease fears of the injured and poorly.

During the pandemic they were on the front line, putting their own lives in danger.

It is important stretched services across the country can match the needs of patients and take pressure off the hard-working staff.

Everyone deserves better from our ambulance service.
