A Scottish teenager who had battled cancer for years has tragically died, with her heartbroken family sharing the news that she 'danced her way to heaven'.
Jane Douglas, mum of 14-year-old Lily, shared the devastating news on her Facebook on Sunday evening, as reported by the Daily Record.
Perth-born Lily Douglas had battled a rare form of cancer for many years - called Ewing Sarcoma, which affects bones and the tissue surrounding them.
Lily had been transported to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary on Friday, January 14, to undergo a potential breakthrough drug trial, but suffered a brain bleed before the treatment began.
Doctors told mum Jane that they were unsure if Lily would last through the night, and if she did, they 'didn't know what damage could have occurred'.

But despite all odds, Lily opened her eyes the next day and chatted to her mum, ate and even swiped through her phone for messages of goodwill.
Last night, however, Jane confirmed that the young girl had 'danced her way to heaven' after passing away at 7:17pm.
In a post on Facebook, Jane said: "Her heart failed but she was on the sofa at home, cuddled into me where she wanted to be.
"She will leave a massive hole in my heart. If love could have saved her she would have lived to a million years old.
"She is at peace and is finally in no more pain.
"Even with cancer, Lily lived her best life and was loved by everyone. I hope I made her proud.
"I was her mum, we were a great team. "Please keep Leon in your prayers, he will need lots of love and support.
"It's not goodbye, she will be waiting on me. It's only time that will keep us apart."
"She looks so beautiful and peaceful and even died with her beautiful, blonde hair.
"Thank you all for your love and support. I could not have done this without you all."
The inspirational fight of Lily Douglas earned her a Pride of Scotland award in 2021, where she was crowned Teenager of Courage.
She formed bonds with famous faces, including Strictly Come Dancing icon Dame Arlene Phillips and Lewis Capaldi.
Arelene even stated that Lily's bravery inspired her to take part in last year's I'm A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here!
Arelene, 78, said on the show: "One of the bravest, most fearless girls is a little girl I know called Lily Douglas, she's so fearless.
"I thought, here I am afraid of so many things. What better way can you push yourself than to do something like this?"
In West Lothian, Lewis Capaldi was a friend of Lily's, and gave Lily 'the best day of her life' when he invited her on stage when he performed at TRNSMT in 2019.
The Someone You Loved singer sent a video message to Lily at an awards ceremony before striking up a friendship over Instagram.
He invited her and pal Yasmin Chan to come meet him in the artist village backstage - where he surprised her with the chance of a lifetime to hang out side stage.
The pair also wowed online followers when they took part in a popular TikTok challenge together.
Gorgeous Lily's talents didn't end at dancing.
In October last year she took to the catwalk, modelling prom dresses alongside Miss Scotland, Claudia Todd who hailed the teen as 'beautiful and talented'.
Loved ones paid tribute to Lily in their droves hailing her as 'an amazing girl ' with 'a beautiful heart'.
One said: "Omg Jane, I am devastated for you, she was a beautiful girl with a beautiful heart."
Another added: "Jane I am so so heartbroken for your loss, she was such an amazing girl."
A third said: "Jane I am so so sorry.
"Lily was a beautiful, special little girl and she touched so many lives.
"I am heartbroken for you all. Much love."
