Some schools and nurseries in Scotland have confirmed closures from next month while staff in two unions take industrial action over a pay dispute.
From September 6 to 8, cleaners, janitors, catering staff, teaching assistants and early years practitioners are participating in the three-day strike as the pay dispute between unions Unison and GMB and Cosla, an organisation representing Scottish local councils, has yet to be resolved.
The action by school and early years staff will coincide with the second round of bin strikes starting September 6. Thousands of refuse workers across 25 councils are set to walk out over eight days.
"We are in urgent negotiations with the employer to try and find a solution, but so far we have only had an offer of talks – we have not had a pay offer," said Johanna Baxter, the head of local government for Unison Scotland.
"Until we can explain to UNISON members how a pay offer might impact on them, council workers have been left with no choice but to strike."
What dates are school council workers striking?
School and nursery staff are taking action from September 6 to 8 in nine councils:
What schools will be closing amid the strikes?
School closures in Glasgow and Inverclyde have been confirmed so far.
Glasgow is closing all primary schools, nurseries, early learning and childcare establishments during the three-day strike. A letter to parents from Glasgow City Council said the 'extent of the action' led to the decision.
Likewise in Inverclyde, all schools and early years establishments will be closed during the action.
A letter from Inverclyde Council to parents said: "Further to the communication you received about potential strike action this letter is to inform you that all schools and early years establishments in Inverclyde will be closed on the 6, 7 and 8 September 2022 due to industrial action."
