Scottish restaurants and pubs named as top riverside spots by The Sunday Times

A list of the best riverside restaurants and pubs in the UK has been revealed by The Sunday Times and multiple Scottish destinations are included.

With spring well and truly started, and summer just around the corner, the newspaper has chosen the best spots across the nation to eat and drink by the water.

Out of 31 pubs and restaurants featured in the list, five are based in Scotland. From the Highlands to Edinburgh, they all take advantage of the country's diverse natural beauty.

The first destination to appear on the list is The Deck at the Isle of Eriska Hotel in the Hebrides, situated on a private island overlooking Loch Linnhe and the Morvern mountains. The three AA Rosette restaurant, which serves up a changing tasting menu, will reopen on April 28 following renovations — and The Sunday Times states that the wait will be "worth it".

The second Scottish spot to appear in the article is wine cafe Toast, located at The Shore in Edinburgh's buzzy Leith district. Guests can enjoy delicious dishes such as huevos rancheros, shakshuka, and avocado toast with poached eggs while taking in views across the water.

Also included on The Sunday Times' list is The Seafood Ristorante in St Andrews, found over the beach at St Andrews Bay and sitting just behind the world famous Royal and Ancient Golf Club. Fortunately, its food is just as desirable as its setting, with the newspaper praising its "refined, sophisticated and highly seasonal dishes".

The fourth Scottish destination to make an appearance is The Pierhouse Seafood Restaurant in Argyll, a small and intimate eatery with a laid-back ambience situated on the shores of Loch Linnhe. Making the most of its coastal setting, dishes on offer include beer battered fish and chips, creel caught Scottish lobster, and Loch Creran oysters.

Ee-Usk in Oban is the fifth and final Scottish spot to be named with its glass-fronted dining room with gorgeous bay views. The "world-renowned" family-run seafood restaurant serves up dishes such as Smoked Haddock Chowder, Whole Dressed Crab, and Smoked Salmon and Prawns.

The full list can be found on The Sunday Times website.
