Scottish location named as the best kept secret beauty spot area in UK

One of the most beautiful and remote beauty spots in Scotland has been named as the best kept secret in the UK.

Assynt and Coigach, which lies south-west of Sutherland, just north of Ullapool is one of the wildest locations in the Highlands and is filled with beautiful scenery including dramatic peaks and rugged peatlands.

Surprisingly, despite its natural beauty and stunning views, it's been named in the research as one of the least Instagrammed holiday destinations making it the UK's best kept staycation secret.

The team at BravoVoucher said: "This Highland ridge is as jaw-dropping as it is hard to pronounce. With plentiful walks to embark on, there’s an adventure for all levels of fitness here.

"With plenty of summits to conquer, best upgrade those old walking boots and get your gear on before venturing North."

In fact, the study by promo site BravoVoucher, found seven of the top 10 least instagrammed locations are in Scotland.

Coming in Second is Cullin Hills on Skye, while the unspoilt region of north west Sutherland is third, and Fleet Valley between Dumfries and Stranraer is fourth.

Dumfries and Galloway features in fifth too with the East Stewartry Coast, while the picturesque Lynn of Lorn in Argyll and Bute and The Small Isles in the Inner Hebrides finish off the Scottish entries.

Scotland also features twice in the top 10 most Instagrammable AONBs (Areas of Natural Beauty and NSAs (National Scenic Areas) with the Shetland Islands and Hoy and West Mainland in the Orkney Isles taking 4th and 9th position respectively.

A spokesman said: "You’ll notice that most entries on this list of least Instagrammed areas of outstanding beauty are in fact in Scotland. If this isn’t a cue to plan a holiday to the North then we don’t know what is."
