Scottish island to welcome 'most remote' nightclub in the world this year

The 'most remote' nightclub in the world will open its doors in Scotland later this year.

Detour Discotheque is opening up on the Isle of Coll in the Inner Hebrides to give partygoers some pretty unique weekend plans. The wee island has just 200 inhabitants, with organisers turning Coll's community centre An Cridhe into a glamorous retro paradise in September.

The nightclub, styled like the 1970's New York Style venue, will welcome fun-loving visitors for just two nights on September 22 and 23.

The new venture follows the sell-out success of the first Detour Discotheque, which took place in the Westfjords of Iceland last year.

Organisers held their first party weekend in the tiny fishing village last April, with guests travelling from all over the world to soak up the Icelandic culture, trying to spot the Northern Lights while partying the weekend away.

And organisers have chosen to bring the sure to be exciting event to the Scottish Island, saying they are keen to bring the party to one of the "wildest and most beautiful parts of the world".

The Isle of Coll is UK's only official "dark-sky communities", meaning partygoers are sure to experience a beautiful night's sky while they dance the night away.

With a capacity of 250, the event will feature top DJs and bands playing floor-filler disco tunes under a spinning mirror ball. There will also be a special performance from Coll's own Cosmic Ceilidh Band.

Visitors will be welcomed to isle with a free 'cosmic garden party at the Coll Hotel on Thursday, September 21. There will also be other activities throughout the weekend from swimming to nature walks and a local Saturday morning market.

How to get tickets for the 'most remote' nightclub in the world

Tickets are now on sale, you can purchase them on the Detour Discotheque website here.

Tickets cost £80, with a considerable price reduction for permanent residents of the Isle of Coll.

How to get to the Isle of Coll for the Detour Discotheque event

You can reach the Isle of Coll by Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) ferry from Oban.

Oban is around a two hour drive from Scotland's central belt and is also accessible from Glasgow's Central Station along the West Highland Line.

And to make things even more enjoyable, the train route travels through places including Loch Lomond, named one of the world's most beautiful rail journeys.

The event is run with the support of CalMac, Visit Scotland and the residents of Coll.

Who is performing?

Confirmed artists include futuristic producer and world music champion Auntie Flo and euphoric Glasgow synth band Free Love.

Detour Discotheque resident DJs will also perform classics, including Chic to Grace Jones to Fela Kuti.

Organiser Jonny Ensall says: “Detour Discotheque is back for another spellbinding weekend. The event is a wormhole that opens in unexpected places around planet Earth, and this year that cosmic phenomenon is happening on Coll – a tiny Scottish island famous for its star-filled skies.

"It’s all about community – bringing disco-lovers and Coll residents together for two nights of unabashed joy, amid plenty of stunning nature and with the Milky Way to admire above us.”
