Scottish Government confirms two Forth Valley covid deaths and 154 new cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed there was two further coronavirus deaths reported in Forth Valley in the last 24 hours.

The area's death toll - composed of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - now sits at 615.

Data from Public Health Scotland also shows that 154 new cases were recorded overnight in the region.

In total, Forth Valley has recorded 67,106 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The latest local vaccination data shows that 92.9 per cent of the over-12 population have received at least one coronavirus vaccination, and 87.9 per cent have received at least two.

Around 70.8 per cent have also received a third vaccination.

Across the country, 2,848 new positive cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the last day through PCR tests - a total of 1,151,614 since the pandemic began.

Sadly a further 30 Covid-confirmed deaths have also been recorded, putting the country's overall death toll from the virus at 10,341.

A further 297 people remain in intensive care.

Meanwhile, 92 per cent of over-12s have received at least one Covid jab while 86.3 per cent have received two.

Around 69 per cent have also received follow-up booster shots.

The latest figures come ahead of Nicola Sturgeon delivering her weekly Covid update to MSPs this afternoon.

Scots may learn more about the Scottish Government’s future strategy in living with Covid, as ministers continue to talk up the benefits of home working after the rules on working in the office were relaxed yesterday.

Opposition parties have called for the Scottish Government to encourage workers to get back into the office amid fears of the long term damage being done to Scotland’s city centre economies.

During the address, the First Minister will also provide an update on the vaccine rollout as NHS Scotland continues to work its way through the booster programme.
