Scottish drivers urged to 'give evidence' amid possible HGV driving licence changes

Drivers across Scotland and the rest of the UK are being called upon to give evidence following a possible driving licence change.

The UK Government are asking drivers to 'give evidence' as they look to change the driving licence regime. This comes following the shortage of HGV drivers and the Department for Transport are looking at ways to make getting a licence to drive heavy goods vehicle easier.

Now that the UK has left the EU, the department is wanting to change the driving licence rules to combat the lorry driver shortage. Under EU law, anyone who passed their car test from January 1 1997 is limited to vehicle and trailer weight of no more than 3.5 tonnes and a separate test is required for a C1 licence.
