Scottish actor Brian Cox nominated for Emmy for role in Succession

Succession actor and independence campaigner Brian Cox

DUNDEE-BORN actor Brian Cox has been nominated for another Emmy for his role as Logan Roy in the critically acclaimed HBO show Succession.

The annual ceremony recognises the best in television excellence, and is hosted by the US Television Academy.

In 2020, Cox, who plays the media mogul and difficult father, was nominated in the same category of “outstanding lead actor in a drama series”.

He is up for the same title this year, as the third season of the hit show rakes in a whopping 25 nominations. It is the highest number of Emmy nods among any other film or show.

Cox - who is a strong supporter of Scottish independence - will go up against his co-star Jeremy Strong in the same category, ironically replicating their competitive relationship in the programme.

He will also be hoping to see off Adam Scott, Bob Odenkirk and Jason Bateman who received nods in the category, as did Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae for Squid Game.

Cox won an Emmy back in 2001 for his role as Hermann Wilhelm Goering in the miniseries Nuremberg.

Succession’s Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin also received nominations, while the show itself is up for best drama series.

Other stars from the UK fared well among the nominations for the 74th awards, with Colin Firth and Jodie Comer on the final shortlists.

British stars Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple and Sarah Niles were nominated for best supporting actress in a comedy series.

The 74th Emmy Awards will take place on September 12 on US network NBC.
