Scottie Scheffler & Rory McIlroy Win $5m Each In Crypto After Winning 'The Showdown'

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy landed a nice early Christmas present after winning $5m each in Crypto when seeing off Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in the much hyped ‘The Showdown’ event in Las Vegas.

Scheffler and McIlroy Beat DeChambeau and Koepka To Win $10m Crypto.com Showdown

With the main golf season over in the build-up to Christmas, Crypto.com took the chance to entice four of the biggest names in the sport away from their festive shopping to go head-to-head for a $10m crypto purse.

Billed as ‘The Showdown’, the 18 hole event saw world number one and US Masters champion Scottie Scheffler paired with world number three Rory McIroy from the PGA Tour – taking on LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.

The competition, which was staged at the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, was contested as best ball over the fist six holes, alternate shots over the next six and the final six holes played as singles.

While in the build-up the banter was flowing in the warm-up with US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau taunting McIlroy about his collapse in that event.

However, as the four tee’d off Scheffler and McIlroy were dominant from the off – winning the four-ball match 3&2 in only four holes – which included a cracking birdie from Rory.

Which quickly turned the event into a one-sided clash.

Scheffler and McIlroy added the foursomes match on the next six holes – taking a 2-0 lead and meaning they only had to tie one of the remaining singles matches over the last six holes to win ‘The Showdown’.

Scottie Scheffler powered to a two-hole lead by the 16th and with only two holes to go against his opponent Brooks Koepka, then this was good enough for the win for McIlroy and Scheffler.

It what was billed as a close match-up – was certainly far from it.

However, the unique event was a winner and with a lot of the action being played under the lights this added an extra dimension – roll on next year in what is surely set to become a regular fixture.

Scheffler and McIlroy might want a bit more of a challenge in 2025 though – if they are paired up again.

This $5m Crypto win for Scheffler ended an eventful year that saw the world number one spend time in jail, win an Olympic gold medal and win eight times in total on the tour – including a second US Masters at Augusta back in April.
