Scott Wright poised for permanent Rangers transfer exit

Scott Wright is poised for a move from Rangers to Birmingham City.

The winger, 27, is set to join fellow Gers teammate Ben Davies at the League One club in the coming days before the conclusion of the transfer window.

Multiple reports say he's travelled down south for a medical, as he gets set for a permanent move. Davies is only on loan.

Wright has spent three and a half years at Ibrox having signed under Steven Gerrard in January 2021.

He made 120 appearances for the Scottish Premiership club, scoring 20 goals. He started the Europa League final in 2022, but for the most part, he was used as a squad player for the various managers he worked under.

Birmingham have moved to tie Wright down on a permanent deal as they look to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking following their relegation to England's third tier.

They also raided the Scottish market for Hearts left-back Alex Cochrane this summer, while young midfielder Marc Leonard joined from Brighton.

Chris Davies - a former Celtic assistant manager - is the current head coach of the Blues.

Wright's departure should allow Philippe Clement some leeway to play with some wages and space in his squad as he looks to add more quality ahead of Friday's deadline.

Meanwhile, Steve Clarke has expressed hope the players he has drafted in to the Scotland squad for the Nations League matches against Poland and Portugal can re-energize the national team after their crushing Euro 2024 disappointment in Germany this summer.

Clarke has handed call-ups to Sturm Graz right-back Max Johnston, Vancouver Whitecaps playmaker Ryan Gauld and Liverpool winger Ben Doak for the Group A1 matches in Glasgow and Lisbon next month.
