Scott Parker’s future as the Burnley manager is in the balance after the club’s relegation, with discussions between the 45-year-old and Alan Pace, the chair, expected to determine whether he will remain in place for next season.
No decision has been made and it is understood Parker is unsure whether to continue and may seek an amicable parting with one year remaining on his contract.
Parker replaced Vincent Kompany in July 2024 on the back of relegation and achieved promotion to the Premier League in his first campaign. But Burnley have struggled on their return and last Wednesday’s 1-0 home defeat by Manchester City confirmed an immediate return to the second tier.
Parker was noncommittal regarding his future last week. “This season has been a huge challenge for us,” he said. “Discussions about what we need to do as a football club will take place in due course.”
If Parker leaves, Steven Gerrard may be of interest to Pace. The former Rangers, Aston Villa manager left Al-Ettifaq by mutual consent in January 2025. Craig Bellamy, who was assistant to Kompany at Burnley, is also admired by Pace, but may not want to leave his position as the Wales head coach.
