Scott McTominay joining Rangers on loan would 'make sense' according to Craig Moore.
The Manchester United midfielder is the toast of the national after two goals in four games for Scotland. He came off the bench to bag a brace in the 3-0 win over Cyprus, before starting against Spain and putting them to the sword with another double to ensure a famous victory for Steve Clarke’s side.
He has struggled to become a first team regular at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag, however. He’ll have seen Billy Gilmour fall out of the picture and as a result, for Scotland due to a lack of gametime and will be keen not to suffer the same fate. Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old this summer and the time may have come to move on from the Red Devils. Moore and John Hartson were discussing McTominay ’s future on the Go Radio football show, and hypothetically suggested he'd be a great fit at Ibrox.
But that was heavily caveated with the stipulation that it could only be a loan deal to have even the slightest chance of happening, although Moore reckons United’s unwillingness to strengthen those around them could help. “He would be amazing for Rangers,” said the Aussie. "He has a physicality and a presence. He does the simple things well. He’s not a fancy player but he does the basics very well.
“He’s obviously a wonderful professional because you don't spend that length of time at Manchester United without being a fantastic professional
“I don’t know what Rangers are looking at but to see someone like McTominay and it would only be a loan because that’s the only way a deal would be possible - would be great. But Man United would probably swallow a large part of that bill.
“It would make more sense, the loan scenario, being in Scotland and if it was Rangers domestically, Man United don’t want to strengthen their competitors.
Hartson added: “He’d be a great signing if they could get him and it would be a loan. But my guess is that he’s on £90 - £100k a week at Manchester United. If they could split the wages then he'd be a fantastic player, of course. Would he want to leave Man United and start afresh at a Newcastle or Chelsea or whatever?”
