Scott McTominay tipped for huge Napoli success by club legend ahead of debut

Scotland hero Scott McTominay has been tipped to be the heir apparent to Napoli legend Marek Hamsik by the man himself ahead of his debut in Italy on Sunday with fellow Scot Billy Gilmour.

McTominay took his tally of international goals up to 11 by scoring against Poland and Portugal in the Nations League during the international break.

The midfielder, who cost Napoli £25.7million from Manchester United and international colleague Gilmour, who cost the club £13.5 million from Brighton, are both expected to make their Napoli debuts on Sunday when they play against Cagliari in a Serie A clash in Sardinia.

And Hamsik - who played for Napoli for 12 years and made over 500 appearances and was the club's all-time top goalscorer and the club's all-time appearance holder - has backed McTominay to make a massive impression in Naples.

He said: "Scott McTominay could definitely be a replacement for me. He reminds me of myself as a younger man.

"He's a midfielder who likes to get forward and score a lot of goals. We have to wait and see and look at where he plays in the Napoli formation.

"But he's proved he is a top player both with Manchester United and with the Scotland national team.

"Of all the transfer additions by Napoli, he's the most exciting one for me."
