Erik ten Hag clarifies Scott McTominay role at Manchester United after goals vs Spain
Erik ten Hag has hinted Wout Weghorst will continue to lead the line for Manchester United despite the return of Anthony Martial, while also clarifying the role of Scott McTominay in his side.
Weghorst has started in all 18 matches he has been available for since he arrived on loan from Burnley on January 13 and Martial has been absent for every one of them.
Although United have only lost two games since they signed Weghorst, the Dutchman has only scored twice, against Nottingham Forest and Real Betis in cup matches.
Luke Shaw to sign new Manchester United contract
Manchester United are on the verge of agreeing a new long-term contract with Luke Shaw. Shaw, 27, is out of contract next year but sources say he is set to sign a new four-year deal.
The left-back joined United from Southampton for £27million rising to £31m in 2014 and he has won the Europa League and the League Cup.
Shaw has played 248 times for United, scoring four goals, having overcome a double-leg break sustained in a 2-1 Champions League defeat at PSV Eindhoven in September 2015.
Having missed the 2016 FA Cup final and 2017 Europa League final through injury and been omitted from the 2017 League Cup final and 2018 FA Cup final matchday squads, Shaw started in the 2021 Europa League final defeat to Villarreal.
