Scott Brown trolls Rangers as Celtic hero explains Light Blues reason behind retirement call

Celtic legend Scott Brown says he decided to pack his playing days in to give long-term adversaries Rangers a chance of success.

His former club enjoyed a fantastic derby win at Parkhead this afternoon, smashing Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men 4-0. Liel Abada struck early and made it a brace before half-time, while Jota and David Turnbull goals inflicted further misery upon Rangers. Brown left Celtic in 2021 and retired earlier this year after a short stint at Aberdeen, now manager of English League One side Fleetwood Town.

During his time at Pittodrie, he came up against the Ibrox side twice, scoring once at Ibrox and waving Ryan Kent off the park in a match up north. No defeats were suffered by the Hoops hero and he has jokingly said that his decision to call time on his time on the park comes from wanting to give Rangers more scope for silverware. Speaking on Sky Sports, Brown said: "Yeah, I played against them twice.

"To be fair, I was unbeaten against them last season. I was thinking about playing this season but thought I'd give them a chance! There is a lot of pressure, and any player who has played in Glasgow can tell you that."

Ange Postecoglou's men were in no mood for giving their Glasgow enemies any chance of victory as they stormed to a relentless win.

Up next for them is an exciting clash at Parkhead, as European champions Real Madrid open up their Champions League group stage section.
