Scott Brown to call time on career as Aberdeen captain holds talks to terminate contract with immediate effect

Scott Brown is set to make a shock move by ripping up the last year of his contract at Aberdeen and retiring for good.

Former Celtic and Scotland skipper Brown is this morning locked in talks with the Pittodrie club as discussions remain ongoing over terminating the final year of his contract with immediate effect.

An official announcement can be expected imminently as Brown prepares to call time on a glittering club career.

The 36-year-old agreed to move to the north east a year ago to link up with former Hibs team mate Stephen Glass with a view to becoming part of a new-look coaching team.

But with Glass since sacked and Jim Goodwin taking over the reins, Brown's intentions have been scuppered.

Brown has been struggling for fitness of late and was nowhere to be seen as Aberdeen suffered defeat against Rangers last weekend.

But Brown's decision also comes as a result of being told he will have no influential input behind the scenes under Goodwin's regime.

Goodwin and Brown's working relationship had already been tested after Brown was interviewed as his potential replacement as manager a short time after the Irishman had departed Paisley to join Aberdeen.

Brown will leave the game as one of the most decorated players in the history of Scottish football having won a League Cup at Hibs before lifting ten top flight titles at Parkhead - including the famous run of nine-in-a-row - as well as six Scottish Cups and another six League Cups during 14 years at the club.
