Scott Brown has revealed watching Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic is aiding his own dugout development.
The Fleetwood Town manager and former Parkhead captain has been picking up pointers from the reigning Premiership champions and admitted: ‘It’s been execptional to watch’. Brown sees parallels between Postecoglou’s team and the Brendan Rodgers-led ‘Invincibles’, of which the now 37-year-old was an integral part.
The legendary midfielder is set to return to Glasgow in May for ‘A Night with Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig’ at the city’s OVO Hydro. Brown wants to experience a proper farewell to the Celtic fans after his departure in 2021 was muted by Covid-19 restrictions.
Two years on, Postecoglou has transformed a team which had reached the end of its cycle. As a young manager, Brown is determined to learn as much as he can from watching them in action.
“Both Ange and Brendan’s sides had that ‘never stop’ mantra,” he said. “Whether you go to the 90th minute or the 97th minute you have to have that belief and drive in you that you want to win the game.
“The lads have fantastic energy and Ange has them playing some great football as well. To watch the games and see the flows and patterns and rotations – it’s great to watch.
“I take a lot from Celtic as well. I have learned a lot over the years through a lot of great managers.
“Just watching Ange and how the lads play I am still learning. I’m a young manager and want to learn as much as I possibly can in a short period of time.
“In terms of parallels with how Brendan’s teams went at teams then yeah, I think that’s what Celtic fans want. They want to see you getting after teams.
“They don’t want to see you sitting in and letting teams have a lot of possession. They want to watch you driving forward, creating chances and getting shots at goal.
“Sometimes teams might get a little bit lucky. But for me the way they’ve played this season has been exceptional to watch.
“Their drive, willingness and Callum McGregor pulling the strings in the middle of the park has been a delight to watch.”
