Scots truck driver charged after £4.4million worth of cocaine seized on M25

A Scots man has been charged with drug offences after £4.4million worth of cocaine was seized from a pick-up truck on the M25.

Michael Buttery, 53, from Kinbrace in Sutherland, was allegedly caught with two bags containing 55kg of cocaine in Surrey on Friday, December 16, after a joint investigation involving the National Crime Agency and the Metropolitan Police.

Officers stopped a silver Ford Ranger on the M25 between junctions 10 and 11 and discovered the massive haul.

Buttery appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 19, and was remanded in custody. He will next appear at Guildford Crown Court in one month, on January 19.

Andrew Tickner, OCP operations manager, said: “This was a significant amount of drugs which have been stopped from reaching the streets as a result of this operation.

“Working with our policing partners we are determined to target and disrupt the organised criminal groups who bring violence and exploitation into our communities.”
