Scots thug dies at HMP Edinburgh while serving time for drugs and gun rap

A Scots thug who was jailed after being caught with a gun and cocaine worth £33,000 has died behind bars.

Liam McCaig, 26, died at HMP Edinburgh on Saturday, June 11, the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed.

A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course.

McCaig was found in possession of an illegal firearm and £33,000 worth of drugs in a rented garage on Berrywell Road, Aberdeen.

He was sentenced to five years Hight Court in Edinburgh in 2019.

Police Scotland have been advised of the 26-year-old's death and the matter will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

An SPS spokesperson said: "Liam McCaig, 26, a prisoner from HMP Edinburgh has died on 11 June 2022.

"He was sentenced at Edinburgh High Court in 2019.

"Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

"A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
