Scots Subway store up in flames as emergency services battle blaze

Fire crews are battling a blaze at a Subway store in Paisley this evening.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Causeyside Street in the town after the alarm was raised at around 8.40pm on Friday. Pictures taken from the scene showed huge plumes of black smoke pummelling out of the building.

Police could be seen in attendance and a cordon was placed around the building while fire crews battled the flames. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service quickly sent four appliances to the scene and it's understood the fire had now been extinguished.

There are no reported injuries as a result of the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently unclear.

It comes after a devastating fire ripped through another Paisley takeaway nearby last night – completely gutting the building.

That blaze took hold at Aladdin's Tandoori in the town's Johnston Street shortly after 11pm on Thursday. Residents of tenement flats above the eatery were evacuated to safety as the emergency services raced to the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted to a fire at a building on Causeyside Street in Paisley at around 8.40pm on Friday, June 2. We mobilised four pumps to the scene.

"We currently remain in attendance at the scene but the fire has now been extinguished. There are no reported casualties."
