Ncuti Gatwa has revealed his "ultimate" Doctor Who villain he would love to battle during his stint as the Time Lord.
On Sunday night, viewers were treated to an emotional farewell to Jodie Whitaker's incantation of the 13th Doctor, before the character swiftly regenerated into David Tennant. Fellow Scottish actor Tennant played the 10th Doctor from 2005-2010 before passing the legacy over to Matt Smith.
During Jodie's last episode, The Power of the Doctor, sees the Time Lord face off against iconic foes like the Daleks, Cybermen and the Master. In the special episode, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann joined the 13th Doctor for her final battle with the Master.
The actor David Bradley represented the first Doctor, originally played by William Hartnell, who died in 1975. Jo Martin also made a welcome return as one of the doctor's future incarnations.
However, one of the most exciting moments came at the end after Whitaker regenerated into Tennant as viewers got their first look at Gatwa in character as the 14th Doctor. The Sex Education actor took part in a brief Q&A about the show, following his debut in a fleeting teaser where he revealed his ultimate villain.
Gatwa first mentioned the Weeping Angels, adding that they're "always a classic" and "genuinely terrifying" – but his second answer is likely to raise some eyebrows.
He then names The Beast as the "ultimate" villain, a demonic foe that first appeared in Russell T Davies's second season of Doctor Who in a two-parter titled The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit. "I would love to battle The Beast because what an ultimate villain. That is the devil and I don't think you get much more evil than that," said Gatwa.
The Beast hasn't appeared in a Doctor Who storyline since 2006, but that doesn't mean old nemesis can't return as the show has proved many times before. Gatwa went on to say that he's "so excited" to play the Doctor and revealed that if he had a TARDIS, he would take it to Nigeria to meet a set of mythological gods known as the Orisha.
"Obviously, it's daunting. It's an iconic role and show, and I'm following in some very big footsteps, but I cannot wait to put my stamp on the character," he continued. "With every new Doctor comes a new beginning for the show, and there are some extraordinary storylines for this season, so I'm going to be very, very busy."
