Scots pub destroyed in blaze as firefighters battle overnight to contain inferno

A pub on the outskirts of Glasgow has been destroyed in a late-night blaze. The alarm was raised shortly after 11.30pm on Wednesday, November 9, when officers received reports of a building alight in Stepps.

Emergency services, including four appliances from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, sped to Dug 'n' Duck on Cumbernauld Road to find a fierce blaze having taken hold of the boozer. The blaze raged on today, with one appliance still in attendance.

Police Scotland locked down a section of the road, as well as nearby Avenue End Road, with firefighters locked in a dramatic fight to temper the flames. It is understood that no one was injured in the blaze, and the cause is yet to be determined.

Photos taken near the scene show a fire vehicle parked near the pub, with several firefighters, decked out in full safety gear and carrying various pieces of apparatus, on the pavement.

Cones have been placed on one side of the road to keep motorists from entering the affected area, while traffic can be seen building heavily in the adjacent lane. The incident caused rush hour tailbacks on the roads approaching Glasgow this morning.

In a statement posted to Facebook, a representative from Dug 'n' Duck wrote: "The pub will be closed until further notice due to a fire. Thankfully no one was hurt. Sorry, we will not be answering messages just now. We will inform you of new developments when more information is available."

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 11.36pm on Wednesday, November 9, to reports of a fire within a commercial property on Cumbernauld Road, Stepps. Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances to the scene. There are currently no reported casualties, and one fire appliance remains in attendance whilst crews work to make the area safe.”

Police Scotland has also been approached for comment.
