Scots OAP dies after being hit by car outside school as police launch probe

An elderly man has tragically died after being knocked down by a car outside a Lanarkshire school.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Bothwell Road in Hamilton after the alarm was raised at around 8.50am on Wednesday, February 1.

Police say that formal identification is yet to take place, but the family of the 75-year-old have been informed and are being supported.

Investigators are appealing for motorists with dashcam footage who were in the area around Hamilton College at the time of the collision, which involved a grey Land Rover Discovery.

Police Sergeant John Houston from the Road Policing Unit said : “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances. No-one else was injured.

“North and southbound carriageways were closed for around four hours to allow crash investigations to be carried out

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash take place, to contact us. We are also keen to obtain any dashcam from motorists driving on the road around the time of the crash.

“I would like to thank members of the public for their patience while we carried out our investigation into this serious collision.”
