Scots gran left housebound after callous crooks steal 'lifeline' wheelchair and walking frame

A disabled Scots gran was left housebound after callous crooks stole her 'lifeline' wheelchair and walking frame.

Kim Sneddon is now 'frightened in her own home' after 'despicable' thieves nicked the kit from her front garden in Glasgow's Whitburn Street.

Police are still hunting the robbers who struck at some point between 9am on May 12 and 8am on May 13.

Vulnerable Kim, who suffers from a plethora of debilitating health conditions, is sickened by the overnight theft and hopes those with information will 'do the right thing' and contact police.

The 61-year-old told the Record: "The whole thing has left me so upset.

"Why would anyone think it's acceptable to target a vulnerable person who lives alone, whoever has done this clearly has no empathy for others.

"I'm now frightened in my own home and this is costing the NHS too as I will need to get replacements.

"The cost of living is going up and people might turn to crime, but I'm struggling to survive too, we all are."

Kim has been battling a number of health issues for around eight years.

She added: "I have arthritis in my hip and waiting for a hip replacement.

"I suffer from angina, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and femoroacetabular impingement; an issue with joints in my hip.

"I barely get out the house as it is, but I need my wheelchair to get to appointments with my nurse as I need to walk down a few steps to get onto the road.

"It's despicable."

Kim stores her black wheelchair and red and black walking frame in her front garden, hidden behind bushes and outdoor storage.

She first called police on Friday morning when her 38-year-old daughter Michelle noticed they'd vanished.

"Michelle and my seven-year-old granddaughter, Hollie Wylie, stayed with me the night before," Kim said.

"They left the house at around 8am to 8.30am to take Hollie to school.

"That's when Michelle noticed they were gone.

"Hollie was out playing on Thursday night on our road till around 8.30pm, that's when we last saw the wheelchair and frame.

"One neighbour thought she saw a white van parked near my house late on Thursday night but that could have been anyone. "

She added: "If you have any information please get in touch."

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde provided Kim with a new wheelchair on May 20 but her own chair and walker are still missing.

Police confirmed the incident and told the Record enquiries are ongoing to hunt down the crooks.

Anyone with information that could help with their probe is urged to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Friday, May 13 police received a report of the theft a wheelchair and walking aid from outside a property on Whitburn Street in Glasgow.

“The theft occurred overnight and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0816 of Friday, May 13.”
