Scots drug gang streams turf war attack on rival on Snapchat before shooting

Thugs filmed themselves carrying out a street attack on a rival as part of drug turf war which saw gunshots fired in a seaside town. Shocking footage of the assault was broadcast on Snapchat and showed the bloodied victim lying on the ground and screaming for help.

It’s understood the attack is linked to other incidents which saw a car set ablaze and a firearm discharged ringing out. Sources say rival gangs battling for control of the Ayrshire drugs trade sparked the drama. The attack took place in Dalry Road, Ardrossan, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance and after arriving at the scene, officers probing the incident found a car damaged and the man injured. The victim, who was dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, was rushed to hospital to receive treatment for a head wound.

A car was torched just over 300 yards from the scene hours later. The following day, police were called to reports of gunshots in the neighbouring town of Saltcoats. Detectives have said the incidents are linked and targeted. Patrols have been increased in the area and locals with concerns have been urged to contact police.

Insiders say incidents are linked to drug dealers fighting for control of the drug trade in the Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston area, known locally as the Three Towns. One said: “It’s tit-for-tat stuff that’s been going on for control of the sale of heroin and cocaine.

“There have been few other incidents over the last few months but in the last few days it’s gone up a notch. How much it has escalated shows just how dangerous and serious things are getting in the area. The attack on the guy was brutal and they could easily have killed him.”

The video of the attack has been shared around local residents. Another source said: “The video is everywhere and if everyone has it then the police will have it as well. It’s clear from the footage who’s involved, they wanted people to know.

“It shouldn’t be long until they are arrested over it but they don’t seem to care who sees it.” A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed officers “are aware of the video”. They added: “Enquiries are ongoing into all three incidents which are being treated as linked.”

Anyone with any information about these incidents should contact police via 101, quoting incident number 3605 of Saturday, August 13, 2022. Alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
