Police Scotland has issued an urgent warning to drivers this summer as the force launches its two-week crackdown on drink and drug driving.
Officers say that they will increase patrols on Scotland’s roads to identify potential drink drivers from harming others over the next two weeks. There will be a higher visibility of police on the roads, with unmarked patrols. Officers will also act upon intelligence and road checks during this spell.
It is hoped that this campaign will help increase focus on the issue of drink and drug driving.

Scots who are found guilty of drink and drug driving face a string of serious penalties - including a driving ban, a prison sentence, a fine of up to £5,000 and potentially losing your vehicle.
The offence will remain on the licence of those found guilty for 11 years. Two weeks of action by Police Scotland coincides with similar campaigns launched by other forces in the UK
Chief Superintendent Louise Blakelock, head of road policing, said: “Our officers are out every day dealing with drink and drug drivers.
“This campaign brings an enhanced focus and we want people to understand it’s not worth the risk. You could lose your licence, your job and impact your loved ones.
“Traffic levels can be higher over the summer months and just one drink can be enough to affect your driving and the safety of those around you.
“If you are concerned someone is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, have the confidence to contact us via 101 or 999 in an emergency and we will take action.”
