Scots driver's motor destroyed as dashcam captures dramatic head-on crash

A Scots driver has captured the heart-stopping moment his car was completely destroyed in a horror head-on crash.

Ed Bewsher shared the dramatic dashcam footage of the incident, which took place on the M6094, outside of Leadburn, Midlothian, on January 4.

The smash was caused after another motorist lost control of their vehicle at around 60mph.

In the one-minute clip, Ed cruises along the dark road before bright headlights appear in front of him.

A car can suddenly be seen veering across the road before smashing into Ed's Audi Allroad.

Police attended the two-car smash and the other driver admitted liability at the scene, reports Edinburgh Live.

Ed's car was written off following the crash, which ripped a car wheel off and crushed the driver's door on impact.

But the 48-year-old knows he had a lucky escape.

He, said: "I escaped relatively unharmed from what could have been easily been a fatal or very nasty head-on collision.

"I was driving along a straight road south of Edinburgh minding my own business when an oncoming car lost control and crossed the centre white line straight into the front corner of my car doing 55mph, ripping the driver side wheel off, disabling both steering and brakes, caving in the driver side footwell to half its width and making short work of the driver’s side door, wing and floor.

"With only the left front wheel the car pulled straight left into a field. No trees on that section of road.

"The preceding miles are all lined with big lumpy mature trees, had I been a split second later the oncoming car would be right in front and not glancing.

"A 100+mph combined impact. All captured in 4k on my recently fitted dash camera.

"Gutted a modern classic has died. Not too many petrol, manual Audi Allroads left."

Ed left people stunned after he posted the video to social media, with one pointing out he was lucky to escape without lasting injuries.

One person said: "That could have been a totally different outcome if it had been a smaller car! Hope it gets all sorted quickly with the insurance.."

Another exclaimed: "You’re a lucky man to walk away unscathed from that! Glad you are ok and well done Audi!"

One user added: Wow! You are so fortunate to walk away from this. Hope you have no long lasting injuries but you no doubt will be sore."
