Scots dad who died after tragic fall in Croatia hailed 'loving and dedicated family man'

A Scots dad who tragically died after an accidental fall in Croatia has been remembered as a “dedicated family man” by his heartbroken loved ones. Gavin McCarte, from Dumbarton, sadly passed away while on holiday with friends last month.

The 36-year-old’s death is not being treated as suspicious by local police while his family are being supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The doting dad-of-two was an engineering manager for Scottish Water and was “well respected across the industry”.

A tribute statement, issued through the FCDO on behalf of his loved ones, said: “The family of Gavin McCarte confirm that he died following an accidental fall while on holiday with friends in Croatia.

“Local police in Croatia confirmed that the incident was a tragic accident with no suspicious circumstances.

“Gavin was a loving husband and dedicated family man with two young children. Aged 36, he was a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and well respected across the industry and throughout the local community.

“The family are devastated by this sudden and tragic accident and request that their privacy is respected during this extremely difficult time.”

An FCDO spokesperson added: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Croatia.”
