A young Scots couple say they had to get themselves home from holiday after a case of mistaken identity got them kicked off their return flight home from Greece.
The pair, Christina Hunter and Dylan Degnan, from Tollcross were only two days into their holiday to Kos when they were contacted by airline Jet2 and told Dylan would not be allowed to board the flight home due to his 'disruptive' behaviour on the flight over. The couple, who had been sitting in separate rows on their outbound flight from Glasgow Airport, think they have been mixed up with another couple who were sat next to Dylan.
They say the other couple were drinking heavily and were involved in a 'physical fight' that led to the woman's passport details being taken by a member of the cabin crew. However, they say that the other couple was never contacted by the airline, while Dylan was accused of being 'intoxicated' and 'disruptive', reports Glasgow Live.
Christina told Glasgow Live : "When we up in the air, the couple beside my partner ended up getting really, really drunk and they actually started physically fighting. A member of the cabin crew came and took her passport details.
"After that, he had fallen asleep and when he woke up he didn't realise the seatbelt light was on due to turbulence and had got up to go to the toilet. The crew member was quite aggressive toward him and told him to get back to his seat.
"She took his passport off him and took his details as well.
"On the second day, we had a letter sent to our apartment from Jet2 telling us to contact them urgently.
"They said Dylan had been barred from the flight because he was intoxicated and due to the fight that had happened. They had got the couple beside him mixed up with us.
"Trying to get hold of Jet2 after that was a nightmare, the customer service was atrocious - they weren't looking into it at all. We went around a bunch of hotels on the island until we found a Jet2 rep, she wasn't really helpful but she gave us forms to fill out. The next day she got back to us to say they were sticking to their word and that we wouldn't be allowed on the flight.
"It was incredibly stressful to try and sort out because there weren't many flights going out from the island. I was in tears on the second day. It put a downer on the whole holiday because it was so frustrating getting blamed for something we didn't do."
The couple was left to find another flight back to Glasgow and ended up having to shell out £1,000 and abandon their holiday a day early.
A Jet2 spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Mr Degnan did display disruptive behaviour whilst on board flight LS147 from Glasgow Airport to Kos. In line with our zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour, we acted accordingly and refused travel to Mr Degnan on his inbound journey. We have spoken to Mr Degnan directly about the matter.”
