Scots cops hunting gunman who smashed three bus windows with air rifle

Police in Grangemouth are hunting a gunman who took potshots at a bus with an air rifle, smashing its windows.

The First bus was travelling on Bo'ness Road in the direction of Bo'ness when it was struck by what are thought to have been ball bearing rounds fired from a rifle. The attack took place at around 4.50pm on Wednesday July 6.

Nobody was injured, but police are concerned at the nature of the seemingly random attack on the passing vehicle. Three windows were smashed in the assault and officers have concluded the damage was caused by a BB gun.

Members of the public who may have been in the area at the time - and drivers with dashcams passing through - have been urged to contact the police if they can provide any information that would assist officers with their enquiries.

Constable Jim Carr, of Grangemouth Police Station, said: “Our enquiries so far have established that the damage appears to have been cause by an air rifle or BB gun. I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and may have witnessed what happened to get in touch.

"Also, I would urge anyone with dash-cam footage, who was in the area at the time to check your footage as you may be able to assist with our investigation. Anyone with information should call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident 2488 of 6 July.”

A spokesperson for First Bus, said: “We can confirm one of our buses was damaged Wednesday 6th July. We are supporting the relevant authorities with their ongoing enquiries.”
