An area in Edinburgh's city centre has been locked down following reports of a serious assault this evening.
Two people have been rushed to hospital following an incident on Leith Street in the city at around 7.50pm on Friday. The area outside the Omni Centre was quickly cordoned off by police with multiple police vehicles and ambulances in attendance.
As reported by Edinburgh Live, enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing. Dozens of shocked onlookers were spotted watching on following the incident and it's understood detectives were pictured at the scene.
Images from the scene showed various police vans, cars and ambulances parked at the side of the busy road at Picardy Place.
An eyewitness who passed shortly after the incident said: "It all happened so fast. Loads of police arrived, there were five vans and multiple police cars. An ambulance took someone away with blue lights on shortly after.
"The police taped off a huge section of the pavement opposite St James Quarter and wouldn't tell anyone what had happened."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.50pm on Friday, 2 June, 2023, officers were called to a report of a serious assault on Leith Street, Edinburgh. Two men have been taken to hospital. Enquiries are ongoing."
