Scots care worker sent someone pretending to be her to do shift

A Scots care worker had a warning placed on her registration after she sent someone pretending to be her to do her shift.

According to Glasgow Live, support worker, Marie Gweth, was due to work a shift with SRS Care Solutions Ltd in August 2020 when the incident happened. It is believed Ms Gewth arranged for the unknown person to carry out her shift during the Covid-19 crisis.

There are no details available for the individual and whether they were permitted to care for vulnerable people. However, it was noted that there was another qualified worker there too and the anonymous person was not the only staff member on site.

After the matter was reported Ms Gweth faced the disciplinary process with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). After the hearing they decided that her behaviour was 'extremely serious'.

The report stated: "Nothing is known about this individual, including whether or not she had been subject to the usual disclosure checks that workers need to undergo before being allowed to work with vulnerable people. You showed a complete disregard for the systems that are in place to ensure safe recruitment practices, and the system of professional regulation.

"It would appear that the unknown individual was not a trained carer, meaning service users could have been placed at risk of serious harm had she attempted to carry out manual handling procedures or administer medicine. Had there been any sort of emergency situation it is unlikely this individual would have been equipped to deal with it.

"It also amounts to a failure to treat the service users with respect, as they have a right to expect that the people who are being allowed into their homes are properly vetted and properly trained workers."

The panel ruled that Ms Gweth's ability to practise had been impaired but stated that she should be allowed to continue working in the sector. The SSSC placed a warning on her registration for the next 48 months.

It also stated that Ms Gweth had shown 'insight and remorse' for her behaviour and that there have been no more concerning incidents in the last two years.
