Scots bride and groom dance in heavy snowfall in magical wedding on Isle of Skye

A couple got married on a mountain on the Isle of Skye despite heavy snowfall - and celebrated by dancing in the middle of the road.

Mum-of-one Erin Pengelley, 29, and husband Ross, 30, were on-and-off for years after being a couple at school.

They got together aged 14 and 15 after chatting on MSN Messenger, and were an item for 18 months before hooking up again at parties.

But they made a go of it properly after Ross had got a job in Canada and decided not to go, around nine years ago.

The couple, from Wormit, Fife, only invited two witnesses to the wedding, and had their baby daughter there too.

After the ceremony with a humanist celebrant they went out for a meal and then back to an Airbnb to play board games.

Erin, who works as a nurse, had a tartan shawl around a white lace dress, and her daughter Florence, 18 months, also wore a tartan dress.

The ceremony was on Sligachan Bridge then moved onto the Quiraing for photos, on March 11.

Snow had fallen heavily but Erin said the weather was perfect, the beauty spot was chosen because they had their first holiday on Skye.

Erin said it was a big decision not to invite their parents, as only her sister-in-law and two pals were present, but it was the right thing for them.

Ross popped the question on a dogwalk in Aviemore, Highlands, but then teased her that the wedding wouldn't ever materialise.

Erin, who is pregnant, said: "Skye was our first proper holiday together, that was when Ross told me he wasn't going to Canada.

"We thought if there wasn't many guests, there was beautiful scenery to make up for it.

"There was only five of us and Florence.

"I think elopement is a newer thing, people have said they wish they had done what we have done.

"It was a big decision not to invite family and friends.

"We both have no regrets and are glad we did it they way we did it.

"The weather was beautiful, it was everything that we wanted.

"I'm pregnant again but knew it would be early enough that I could hike up a mountain.

"A lot of people have said the dress was ruined but I didn't want to make a big deal out of it.

"If it's not mud it's going to be booze!

"I wasn't going to get uptight about the dress.

"We have a friend who lives on Skye and she messaged us to say it was snowing quite hard.

"We were a bit nervous about the weather but where we were wasn't too windy or exposed.

"We used to do quite a bit of hillwalking and munro climbing."

The ceremony lasted 30 minutes and included drinking from the Quaich - a cup containing whisky which is shared between guests.

They then had a meal and went home and played board games.

Erin added: "It was super-chilled.

"I wish I could do it all over again.

"It has been turbulent, but me and Ross always seem to have found our way back to each other."
