ScotRail have warned passengers to expect disruption during the morning commute.
Network Rail staff had to inspect the line between Edinburgh Park and Linlithgow at around 8.20am on Tuesday morning, April 4.
Posting to social media Network Rail said: "We're investigating reports of a track fault between Edinburgh Park and Linlithgow. We've had to close the line in both directions whilst we look into this further."

Commuters were left stranded while ScotRail organised replacement buses and ticket acceptance. Some disgruntled passengers took to social to vent after missing connecting trains to and from London.
ScotRail warned passengers to expect disruption and organised a number of buses with ticket acceptance at Edinburgh Park, Stirling, and Glasgow Queen Street.
At 10.15am, Network Rail confirmed that the fault had been fixed and the lines are now able to re-open. However ScotRail have warned that some alterations will still take place.
In an updated tweet, the train operator explained: "Our Control team now working to restore the timetable in a controlled manner, to prevent further disruption. We need to get our trains and crews back into position to do this. The lines are open again, but some alterations will still take place."
On their website they have said that disruption is expected to last until around 12pm today and train services between Edinburgh and Dunblane are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled, delayed or revised.
