ScotRail have confirmed they will be keeping an alcohol ban in place for the 'foreseeable future.'
The travel operator had put the measure in place during the coronavirus pandemic, but have shared they intend to keep the rule on Scottish trains more permanently.
Since November 2020, passengers using trains in and out of Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland have been unable to consume alcohol onboard, in a rule designed to prevent the spread of covid-19.

Introduced alongside guidance from the Scottish Government, it was believed that passengers consuming drinks would be more likely to ignore social distancing and the use of face coverings.
However, despite other covid rules being removed, ScotRail shared on social media on Friday evening that the ban would be continuing.
In a post about the 'alcohol free zone', they said: "We’ve agreed with the Scottish Government that we’ll keep our current alcohol ban in place for the foreseeable future.
"The policy will be reviewed as part of the Scottish Government’s National Conversation on Rail."
