THE richest man in Scotland has bought a historic estate on the shores of a beautiful loch for an undisclosed sum
Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen, who is the majority shareholder in online fashion giant Asos, has spent millions buying around 220,000 acres in Scotland over some 20 years and is the country's largest private landowner.
Now, he has added the Kinross House Estate just by Loch Leven to his massive property portfolio.
The Scottish country house dates back to 1692 and is set in over 100 acres of gardens and ancient woodlands.
Of late, it has exclusively been used as a wedding and events venue.
Joseph Dunn, a spokesman for WildLand – an estate management company which is Povlsen’s main Scottish business – told The Times: “Kinross House and Loch Leven are extraordinary places, shaped by centuries of history and by people who have cared deeply for them.
“We are very conscious that becoming the owners of a special place like Kinross House Estate comes with a responsibility that reaches far beyond us.
“Our ambition is not to put our own stamp on Kinross House Estate, but to be good custodians of what is already there — to protect its character, care for its people, buildings, landscapes and wildlife, and contribute to preserving all this for generations to come.
“An important part of that is also keeping Kinross House alive and welcoming, so that guests can continue to experience and enjoy this remarkable place.”
He added on the topic of recent restoration work: “Their dedication to restoring and preserving this exceptional place has been remarkable, and we have enormous respect for the work they have done.
“We will do everything we can to continue that stewardship with the same care and long-term perspective.”
