A FAMOUS Glasgow nightclub frequently cited as Scotland’s largest has been put up for sale for the first in 33 years.
According to The Herald, real estate agents CDLH have formally announced the sale of The Garage Nightclub – one of the city’s most well known nightclubs and music venues.
Opening its doors in 1994, it has hosted Prince, Biffy Clyro, One Direction, Kasabian and Marilyn Manson.
"A cornerstone of the city’s entertainment scene for decades, The Garage has played a defining role in shaping Glasgow’s vibrant cultural and social landscape,” the agent said.
"Having established the venue 33 years ago, owner Donald Macleod MBE has taken the decision to bring the premises to market as he focuses on expanding and enhancing his wider interests within the media, promotion and leisure sectors.”
Macleod also owns the iconic Cathouse rock club (below) in Glasgow city centre.
He said: "Over three decades, The Garage has become an important cultural institution within Glasgow, indeed Scotland’s live music, grassroots and nightlife scene, and it has been an absolute privilege and honour to own and operate such a well-loved venue, whose history, energy, location and reputation has placed it on the world’s stage.
“As I start to focus on developing other areas of my media, promotion and leisure portfolios, this feels like the right time as we are sitting with a full gig diary, to pass the baton to a new owner, who along with our fantastic management team and staff, will help build on this incredible legacy.”
Peter Darroch of CDLH, meanwhile, added: "The Garage is a truly landmark venue with a reputation that extends far beyond Glasgow.
"Opportunities to acquire assets of this stature are rare, and we anticipate strong interest from a range of buyers seeking to build on its established legacy."
The agent added: The Garage has been a cornerstone of Glasgow’s vibrant music scene, captivating audiences with electrifying club nights and unforgettable live music experiences.
"As Scotland’s largest nightclub, it holds the capacity to welcome 1,800 revelers each night, making it one of the most sought-after party spots in the city.
"Spread across six unique rooms on four levels, the venue offers a diverse atmosphere, catering to different musical tastes.
"Music lovers can explore our three established live music venues: The Garage, G2, and The Attic, which collectively host over 250 bands each year. Each space is equipped with top-class sound and lighting systems."
