Scotland youngster training with Tottenham development squad in hope of transfer deal

Kilmarnock youngster Ben Brannan is currently training with Tottenham's development squad, football.london understands. The 16-year-old is working with the rest of the club's talented youngsters at their Hotspur Way base as part of a three-week trial period.

Coming through the ranks at Kilmarnock, the teenager will be hoping to do enough in his time in north London for Tottenham to sign him permanently. Operating at right-back, Brannan moved up to the Under-18s squad at Rugby Park this summer after signing from the Under-17s.

The right-sided player has featured regularly for his country in recent months, including in the Victory Shield at the end of October. Coming off the bench in Scotland's opener against Northern Ireland, he then started in their following match as they defeated Wales 3-2.

Back in February, Brannan was part of Scotland's Under-16s squad for a UEFA Development tournament taking place in Cyprus. A substitute in their first game against Denmark, he started in their next two fixtures as they lost 3-0 to England and drew 1-1 with Cyprus.

Clearly making an impression to come to the attention of Tottenham, Brannan will be doing all he can to ensure that he remains with the Lilywhites beyond his trial period. Last week football.london reported that fellow 16-year-old Herbie James had signed on a free transfer from Manchester City. football.london understands that Spurs saw off competition from Everton and Wolves to clinch his signature.

The teenager can operate on either wing and made his debut for the Under-18s from the bench in their 4-0 win at Norwich City last Saturday, although he was listed as a triallist on the official team sheet. James was once again named on the bench on Wednesday as the Under-18s drew 2-2 at Brighton & Hove Albion.
