Scotland to be hotter than Barcelona this week at 19C as warm March spell continues

Scotland's spell of sunny weather will continue into this week as temperatures are set to be hotter than Barcelona in some areas.

After temps hit a scorching 20.2C in Kinlochewe over the weekend, forecasters are predicting another blast of good weather this week.

The Met Office say the hottest day this week is likely to be Tuesday.

It's possible the warmer than average weather could reach 17C to 18C across Scotland and possibly up to 19C on Wednesday in Aberdeen.

Some areas will surpass temps in Barcelona, which will experience 14C on Tuesday according to weather.com.

Conditions will also be slightly colder in Madrid (13C) and Monaco (15C).

Met Office Richard Miles meteorologist told the Daily Record that "fairly consistent high teens" are broadly possible in Scotland on the 22nd.

Tuesday's weather is warmer than average for this period, the meteorologist confirmed.

Mr Miles said that the weather will shift from Thursday as the forecast becomes largely cloudier and cooler with odd showers ahead for the second half of the week, dipping to 13-14C.

There are also hopes that this warm spell lasts into next month, with odds for the warmest April on record tumbling.

The record high in March was recorded in 2012 as Aberdeen hit a scorching 23.6C.

Scotland's average maximum temperature in March is 7.6C.

The Met Office's five day forecast

Today

Fog patches in the east clearing, then most places dry with sunny spells, although more cloud than recently, with a few light showers possible. Warmer than on Sunday with lighter winds.

Tonight

Mainly dry with variable cloud and clear spells, although still the risk of a light shower from thicker patches of cloud moving north. Frost more restricted to the north.

Tuesday

Another mostly dry day with variable cloud and sunny spells, just a few showers developing over central areas through the afternoon. Warm in the sunshine.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday

Remaining fine and dry with some warm sunshine but chilly nights. Cloudier in the far north with patchy rain at times. Areas of low cloud and fog near east coasts.
