Craig Gordon 6 Would have been expecting a far busier evening than this but was untested as Ukraine toiled.
Nathan Patterson 3 Continued his fine Everton form in the opening stages and looked dangerous on the right. Couldn’t continue after suffering a knee injury and was stretchered away in clear discomfort.
Jack Hendry 7 An accomplished all round showing at the heart of a reshaped defensive line. Won his tackles and was sound positionally in a performance he can be pleased with.
Scott McKenna 7 Dealt with a surprisingly poor Ukrainian attack well and deserved his clean sheet. Could have done better with a back post header after 75 minutes.
Kieran Tierney 7 Started well and was a threat down the left as he showed his class. Denied by a smart save late on and was comfortable defensively.
Callum McGregor 7 A typically cool and composed showing in the middle of the park from the Celtic captain. Helped Scotland control proceedings as his big game experience shone through.
Scott McTominay 7 His versatility continues to be an asset for Scotland but this showing highlighted his effectiveness in midfield. Dictated the play and was an integral figure in a fine win.
John McGinn 8 Handed the armband for the night in the absence of Andy Robertson and rose to the occasion when Scotland needed him. Could have done better with an early header but produced a lovely low finish to break the deadlock with 20 minutes remaining.
Stuart Armstrong 6 Should have done better with two chances from promising positions but fired them both straight at the keeper from inside the area. Fired over from close range on the hour mark and put a header wide when he simply had to score.
Ryan Christie 6 Partnership and link-up with Adams was promising at times. Had a couple of half-chances in a solid showing overall.
Che Adams 6 Was wiped out by Bondar late in the first half as the Ukrainian somehow avoided a red card. Hit the bar with a header and then denied by Trubin seconds later.
Substitutes:
Aaron Hickey (for Paterson, 26) 6 Got up to speed quickly after first half introduction and performed well. Unlucky to see an effort deflected wide.
Ryan Fraser (for Armstrong, 75) 3 Had few chances to get involved off the bench.
Lyndon Dykes (for Adams, 75) 6 A super sub showing from the striker. Two terrific headers to clinch the win and then add a shine to the scoreline.
Kenny McLean (for Christie, 84) 2 Game was won by the time he was introduced.
Greg Taylor (for Tierney, 84) 2 Deserved late run-out after fine efforts for Celtic.
