Scotland star Billy Gilmour turns up at Ayrshire club's pre-season

Scotland star Billy Gilmour stunned an Ayrshire football club when he rocked up to their pre-season.

The midfield ace who plays for Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion was a surprise inclusion as Glenafton Athletic returned from the summer break to get to work ahead of the new campaign.

The 22-year-old has been enjoying some down time after he featured in last months heroics for Steve Clarke's men. The former Rangers youngster was a key man as the national side downed Norway and Georgia to top their Euro 2024 qualifying group, with a maximum of 12 points out of four games.

But just weeks after another Hampden bow, Gilmour was welcomed along to St Joseph's Academy in Kilmarnock on Thursday night where the Glen's squad were put through their paces ahead of their opening pre-season match against St Roch's on Saturday.

Gilmour was spotted kitted out in the New Cumnock club's training gear as players were given a stern fitness test under manager Ryan Stevenson.

The session also saw Ayr United legend Michael Moffat and new signings Gary Fraser, Luke McBeth, Ryan Sinnamon all return to the training pitch.

Glenafton Athletic shared the news that a famous face had joined them on Facebook.

A post from the Glen's read: "Earlier tonight, the players returned for their first pre- season session at St Josephs Academy in Kilmarnock ahead of our first pre season match against St Roch's on Saturday.

"New signings Gary Fraser, Luke McBeth, Ryan Sinnamon and Michael Moffat were all in attendance.

"We were also delighted to once again welcome Brighton and Scotland player Billy Gillmour to training.

"The session was geared towards raising the fitness levels of the players for the upcoming season.

"We look forward to our first pre season fixture on Saturday at St Rochs, and the players and management would all like to wish Billy all the best for the upcoming season with Brighton, and we look forward to welcoming him to a game soon."
