Scotland set to sizzle again as temperatures could reach 30C later this week

Parts of Scotland could see temperatures hit a sizzling 30C in the later half of this week.

After a fortnight of unfortunate weather, with yellow warnings for rain issued in parts of the country last week and the week before that, it appears that Scotland's summer could be making a comeback. The central belt is likely to get the brunt of the good weather.

The north-west of the country may be a bit cooler with occasional spots of rain, but could still see temperatures reach the high-teens. In the warmer central belt it is unlikely that the heat will match that of last month's amber warning heatwave, but will still possibly approach a tropical 30C.

Among the areas where mid to high 20's could be on the cards is Edinburgh, currently forecasted to hit 26C on Thursday and 25C on Friday. This means Edinburgh Fringe revellers will be able to enjoy scorching summer weather while exploring the culture-filled streets of the historic city.

Glasgow is another city which is set to heat up this week, with current Met office forecasts saying that temperatures could be as high as 27C on Friday. That would be on-par with Los Angeles in California, which is also currently forecasted to hit 27C on Friday.

A Met Office spokesman said: "With high pressure in charge for most of the UK’s weather this week, we will see temperatures climb through the week, reaching highs of 29C or 30C in Scotland on Friday and Saturday. These values are most likely to be achieved in areas around the central belt or possibly the southern uplands.

"The edge of high pressure occurs over the Western Isles so weather here and other parts of north west Scotland could be subject to more Atlantic dominated conditions with cooler temperatures and occasional periods of rain."

Met Office five-day forecast

Today:

Dry with plenty of sunshine for most. Cloudier at times over the far north of Scotland where there will be some rain at times. Much of the UK will be dry with long clear periods and a risk of some mist and fog patches this evening. Remaining cloudy across the far north with outbreaks of rain.

Tomorrow:

Dry with plenty of sunshine for most and feeling hot across central and southern areas. Cloudy and breezy for north and west of Scotland with some drizzly rain at times.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Cloud and rain in the far north at times. Elsewhere, dry and sunny. Becoming very warm away from eastern coasts.
